So I got my boots on, got the right 'mount of leatherAnd I'm doing me up with a black color linerAnd I'm workin' my strut but I know it don't matterAll we need in this world is some love The truck was devoid of any human company. A Queen CD was playing, and Nick drummed his fingers on the steering wheel along to the beat. Driving on the wrong side of the road had taken some getting used, but after being in Australia for nearly a month, touring the various regions, and comparing each one, Nicholas decided that the city of Melbourne would be best suited for him. While he toured, Snow had been in quarantine. That was one thing he was grateful for. His whole life was made up of his parents providing the best for him, and being successful race horse breeders and trainers, they could certainly afford it. The gratefulness came in when Seattle Snow had been born. Nick was 15 when the little bay colt had been born. Small for a full term foal, Snow also had deformed fetlocks. It had taken all of Nick's time and persuasion for his parent's to keep the foal, after all, Snow was by Seattle Slew, and out of a Horse Chestnut mare.
Snow slowly turned grey, and by the time he was 3 had perfect fetlocks, but was also a dud on the racetrack. So Nick had retrained the gelding, and the two had been together ever since. Snapping out of his memories, Nick wondered how the gelding was coping with the long distance travelling. In the side mirrors he saw that he had no reason for concern, and a bright brown eye was seen. There was still a ways to go before they reached the stables that they both were residing at. On the back seat were boxes as well as a few suitcases and a lot of tack. Three saddles, three bridles, various blankets, two tack trunks, and all of it equaled to some hefty airport fees.
Nick was just glad that he had a chance to show his stuff in Australia, and escape his home life for a while. His oldest sister was married and settled in England, training steeplechasers. His other sister was a jockey, and riding at various race courses. Obviously horses ran in his blood. He drifted back into his memories, to another day. The day that he had come clean about his orientation, and as his father put, "was batting for the same team". Of course his parents had been shocked, well, his father had nearly disowned him. It had taken nearly a year for them to accept it. His siblings just went with the flow, more accepting than ever. Of course, seeing their brother at Christmas made it easier for them.
Turning into a drive way marked with the stables name, a smile slipped onto Nick's handsome features. So finally they had arrived. Horses dotted the paddocks, and in the distance he could see various barns and residences. Wondering if anyone was about, he parked the truck in what looked to be the right area. Getting out, he put on his sunglasses to stop the glare of the sun, and went to the trailer. An eager Snow nickered at Nick, and he rubbed the horses forehead, before stepping out to lower the ramp. Snow basically unloaded himself. Holding the horse, Nick walked around the area a bit, just for Snow to stretch out a bit. \\STATUS//Complete \\NOTES//Mostly just rambled here \\OUTFIT//coming \\LISTENING TO//Queen \\WORDS//546 \\MUSE//Okay \\TAGS//anyone \\LYRICS//If I Had You//Adam Lambert \\CREDIT//to O.nzy. [/center] ______________________________________________________________________________First day on the job and things were running fairly smoothly for Ana. The first permanent residents were expected to arrive today, which was encouraging. The new inhabitants of Room One and Two certainly seemed like interesting guys from what Ana had gathered from talking to them about the necessary arrangements. The extra vigour with which she had attacked her morning duties clearly displayed the eagerness held in anticipation of meeting them both although with only one horse in a stall and the rest out in the school horse paddock, the duties were admittedly small in number. To make up for it, Cab was taken on a long ride through some of the trails that go through the surrounding country. Ana was repeatedly hit with the sensation that everything was at ease around this place. It's hard to believe that the previous owners couldn't make the place work, that they were sent spiralling into bankruptcy. Ana's thoughts wandered as she sat at her desk, slowly chewing her lunch. She wondered about the future of this enterprise. It promises to be bright what with new blood, fresh faces and unseen talent threading their way towards the stables now.
As she stood up and brushed the memory of her sandwich off her hands, the rhythmic throb of a heavy vehicle pulsed down the driveway toward the stalls. Ana wandered to the window and watched as the truck pulled up. A man with a smile on his handsome face stepped out of the drivers side of the truck. In a stylish movement he pushed some sunglasses over the bridge of his nose. He paused for a moment and seemed to inhale the surroundings before eagerly striding to unlock the tailgate of the trailer. The man disappeared for a second and soon reappeared following an emerging grey rump. The horse that he led seemed so docile. A beautiful, big grey gelding, with alert ears and sweet eyes. He was well built and if Ana hadn't already known from her files it would have been easy to pick that he was an eventer. After seeing the horse, Ana was certain that this new arrival was Nick Williams, who had recently arrived from America to compete in Australia with his ex-racer Seattle Snow. Ana lingered at the window a moment, watching as Nick walked Snow around the courtyard a bit, stretching both their muscles. He had probably been on a long drive. Luckily Cook had been notified of the new residents so rest assured Nick would be well fed tonight. The recently stocked feed room would also ensure that Snow received the attention that he deserved. Ana turned away from the window and skipped down the stairs to officially greet Nick and welcome him to Vita.
Ana walked at an easy pace out the door towards Nick and Snow, now standing stationary in the driveway. "Hi there. I'm Ana, pleasure to meet you. I'm assuming you're Nick?" She held out her hand in a gesture of welcome and with the other patted Snow on his firm neck. "Let's get this boy settled in. If you'll follow me?"
Walking beside Nick and Snow, Ana set off towards the stable entrance. There was a decided spring in her step as she began to converse with Nick. So I got my boots on, got the right 'mount of leatherAnd I'm doing me up with a black color linerAnd I'm workin' my strut but I know it don't matterAll we need in this world is some love The dappled grey gelding whinnied eagerly even though he was the only horse in the surroundings. Somehow the usual robust temperament for a Thoroughbred had skipped out on Snow, but the gelding had always been affectionate and docile. Nick slackened his hold on the royal blue cotton lead rope, knowing that Snow wouldn't do anything daft. He observed the surroundings, and was impressed with what he saw. He at that moment knew that he had made the right decision. Snow also seemed relaxed in his surroundings, and Nick knew that when his horses were relaxed, it was a good place. His phone was off, and he would leave phoning everyone to a later time.
Not even five minutes had passed before a blonde female came to greet them. I am, he answered. Pleasure to meet you Ana, he added with his Kentucky accented vocals. Snow snapped his head up, and sniffed the new comer, obviously looking for a treat or two. Another smile spread across Nick's face, well, Snow did inherit one thing from his dam. No manners, but Snow did have excellent stable manners. Usually. It was all forgotten when it was feeding time.
Okay sure, he answered once again. Snow followed behind, his head lowered, and ears floppy. A light day sheet in maroon covered the horses body, as well as royal blue travelling boots, and a royal blue poll guard attached to a special travelling halter which was covered in fleece. The horse had dinner plate hooves, each one making as little noise as possible, and the only sounds from the horse was his occasional snort as he took in the new scents. Nick was never really one for making conversation, but didn't feel uneasy in the silence.
So how long have you been in this place? Nick asked Ana, a question that never really came up when they conversed over the phone. Nick however did find out what feed the stables used, as to make a gradual change for Snow. It had taken a good month, but Snow was now adjusted to his new feed. His supplements stayed the same, and Nick wondered where he could find a chiropracter for Snow. Yeah, Nick usually was broke after paying all Snow's things. A friend had once said that a horse was the only thing you paid once off and still had monthly installments for. How true it was. \\STATUS//Complete \\NOTES//Your post was great Ary!\\OUTFIT//HERE\\LISTENING TO//Jacaranda FM\\MUSE//Went running out the door, leaving only a trail of dust\\TAGS//Ary\\LYRICS//If I Had You//Adam Lambert\\CREDIT//to O.nzy.
